Over and out

Lately I haven't had the time nor the energy to write anything on my blog, so I have decided to take a pause from it all.
Thanks for sticking around this far and probably we'll see again later :)

this and that, mostly that

a lot of things has happened lately and I really haven't remembered to write anything here. My time has been occupied with surprise visits from the states, a pitbull concert, other friends visiting, work and some church time too.

All I want to say at the moment is that  God's mercy is so great that all the words and expressions in the world wouldn't be enough to describe it!

Me, a blonde??

Since I was 13 years old I have been dying my hair. It has seen many varieties  from red to blond (which it it is now at the moment). When I was in middle school my friends used to call me a kinder egg, you know those chocolate eggs with a surprise in it. Well the point wasn't the surprise but the layer of milk inside the egg. See at that time I had brown hair (also hair color) but I guess I was or acted a little slow, so my friends called me kinder egg, dark on the outside, blonde on the inside ;)

More than one year ago I finally colored my hair blonde and it has stayed that way ever since. From time to time I actually get these moments when I feel like a stereotype blonde, the not-so-witty girl.

Here's my ''act of blonde'' for today:

I had to straighten my hair a moment ago and took my straightener from its bag. As normally I pressed the on/off button but nothing seemed to happen. I did it once more but nothing. I really started to wonder when I realized that it wasn't plugged in!

See, these times I really feel at home with my hair :) otherwise I just love it! (said as a true stereotype ;))

Living in a miracle

Each day is a miracle, a new opportunity.
You (including me) should treat it like that and make each moment count.

Yours

This weekend I really haven't been listening to other music than TobyMac. Continuing with TobyMac-theme, here's a refrain of the song Yours, which has been my prayer these past few days. Also this song In the Light has been my prayer.

//I'm Yours
Take me as I am
I'm Yours
So take this space between us and fill it up again//

Unstructured

Today I was on a quest for work-shoes and after a long search I found the perfect pair:

They're extremely comfortable and quite cute :) The brand is Clarks unstructured. When I tried them on the shop it was love at first sight. The sole and the leather's so soft that it felt (as my friend Theres would say it) walking on clouds :)

Studies and Tobymac

I've noticed that I have become lazy in posting anything here. So this'll be a quick post :)
I've actually been really busy the past few weeks, because I've had a bunch of exams and they're not over yet.

Now, while I'm studying, I have a TobyMac live cd running in the background, and I wanted to share with you the greatness of his songs.  Here's an example:

I was made to love you
I was made to find you
I was made just for you
Made to adore you
I was made to love
And be loved by you

Don't know what to write as a title so I'll leave it just like this.

Been a while since I've updated anything, let alone about something what I have been doing and I don't know if you even wan't to know, but here it comes anyway :)

This Easter I spent in the lovely western neighbor-country Sweden. We celebrated with the whole family and some friends my aunts birthday, and once again we had a great time! Today morning I came back from Stockholm, where I visited a dear friend of mine and also there had real fun and nice time :) This Easter was a true holiday for me.

So, now Easter is over and we are headed full speed towards spring and summer. Well, technically it already is spring, I only have a hard time getting it even though all the signs are in the air. For example this morning I saw a squirrel running across the street and playing and jumping, and the weather was so warm that you could wear a light jacket and not freeze to death as you did a few weeks ago.

I can't believe how fast the time has gone. Soon it's already labour day, and I can't wait to take a bottle of sparkling wine, head to the river and celebrate that the summer's coming!

Dig those sunglasses out because now it's spring!

This is our God

This is a song that has come to my mind every now and then. I love the lyrics and I think it says really well what God has given to us. I can feel the greatness of my daddy when I listen to this song.

Your grace is enough
More than I need
At your word I will believe
I wait for you
Draw near again
And your spirit make me new
And I will fall at your feet
I will fall at your feet
And I will worship you here

Your presence in me
Jesus light the way
By the power of your word
I am restored
I am redeemed
By your spirit I am free
And I will fall at your feet
I will fall at your feet
And I will worship you here

Freely you gave it all for us
Surrendered your life upon that cross
Great is your love
Poured out for all
This is our God

Lifted on high from death to life
Forever our God is glorified
Sovereign king
Rescued the world
This is our God

And I will fall at your feet
I will fall at your feet
And I will worship you here

Freely you gave it all for us
Surrendered your life upon that cross
Great is your love
Poured out for all
This is our God

Lifted on high from death to life
Forever our God is glorified
Servant and king
Rescued the world
This is our God

footprints

I made this today out of an old picture of mine to be my cover page in facebook and I wanted to share it with you too. The picture's taken in Spain, one of my favorite countries and the phrase is from ''footprints in the sand'' a story that is really comforting.

Kuule minun ääneni

Syvyydestä minä huudan sinua, Herra
Kuule minun ääneni
Syvyydestä minä huudan sinua, Herra
Kuule minun ääneni

Pimeydessä minä kaipaan valoa, Herra
Kuule minun ääneni
Pimeydessä minä kaipaan valoa, Herra
Kuule minun ääneni

Erämaassa minä etsin elävää vettä
Kuule minun ääneni
Erämaassa minä etsin elävää vettä
Kuule minun ääneni

Anna minun sydämeeni uusi laulu
Kuule minun ääneni
Anna minun sydämeeni uusi laulu
Kuule minun ääneni

ÅA & UTU

feeling of flow

Today I had an incredible feeling of a flow. Although I had an exam, a job interview, paid a visit both to the insurance company and the bank and still had time to bake a cake and watch an american football game with friends I don't feel exhausted, not even tired!

I'm really starting to think that Coelho is right with his quote I shared with you a few days ago. This day felt so efficient!

Välikommentti

Just realized that I've forgotten (surprise!!!) to share the pictures from Fastlaskianen. I promise that as soon as I  get motivated I'll share the pics with you. Then of course if you still want to see them.

Continuing the Laziness

So, tomorrow's pt. II of my last exegetics exam (at least for now).
Somehow I've managed (yet again) to spend my day doing anything else but something useful. Or that's at least what I think now.

Not to sound too lazy I wan't to clarify to all that yes, I have woken up today before 7 a.m. to make it to this mornings Greek class and I've also had pt I of the exam, so not all the day has gone to waste. Some might even say that it's been a pretty good day counting that I've also ''sown in God's Kingdom'' by going to church. But now it's too soon to see the fruits, so I'll just go to bed and pray to God that tomorrow's exam will go as good as today's (which went actually really well)

El Peregrino

Felt (Once again) that the day was too short, but yet nothing was accomplished. Then this quote came to my mind:

“The busiest people I have known in my life always have time enough to do everything. Those who do nothing are always tired and pay no attention to the little amount of work they are required to do. They complain constantly that the day is too short. The truth is, they are afraid to fight the good fight.”

This week Iltalehti published an article about the ethical view in murdering a newborn baby, as a way of birth control. This is a cruel thought and many seem to take the same stand. 74% of 22 715 voters agree with me. This article made me think that even though murdering a newborn is extremely obnoxious, it doesn't differ that much from an abortion. And as abortions are legalized, should this ''late abortion'' also be legalized.
But just to clarify (so that no one misunderstands me) I'm against both abortion and murdering of a baby. I just don't realize how anyone can be pro for one and against the other.

For the past few months I have had ethics at school, and for the past week I have been working on a group project with the topic ''Church and Medicine'', so this all are very fresh in mind for me.

If you want to read the article (in Finnish) you can find it here.

Freaky Friday

Remember this?

So it's Friday today :)

Overall it's been really nice day, first some (delicious) coffee with a friend and then SHOPPING!

Found these pairs of shoes <3 love love love!

Today I hit my head in my kitchen closet and now I have a big bump in my head. It's making it hard to sleep. Ouch.

Only in Kokkola

Now when I'm living somewhere else, I fully notice how weird my little hometown is:

Today in the city center there was the Ice-sculpture contest, and alongside this event a restaurant had opened it's doors and started karaoke. Even though there was almost a snow storm outside and 5 degrees below zero, people were truly dancing with devotion to the karaoke music outside on the patio. When I passed the crowd I thought to myself that this can only happen in Kokkola.

Then I went to Gigantti to buy some electronics and noticed a sign nearby their entrance. It said Sveriges konsulat. In English: consulate of Sweden. So apparently Sweden has it's consulate in Kokkola upstairs of an electronic-device store and the building looks like this:

http://www.eniro.fi/KOKKOLA/147937/Gigantti/

You can even see the sign of the consulate in the picture next to the stairs, under the middle window.

Brain Teaser

Here's a challenge to everyone:

In English: ''Kindergarten children solve this problem in 5-10 min, programmers in on hour and people with higher education... Well, try yourself!

I guess I can count myself to those with higher education when it took me about 15 min with tons of clues! otherwise I would probably still be trying to figure this one out.

Fastlaskiainen

Today it was Laskiaistiistai or Fastlagstisdag in Swedish.
A lot of things happened;
There was this traditional sleigh ride - competition between colleges in Turku. Unfortunately we didn't win, but I'm sure it's only because of those chemists who can make some kind of a chemical reaction in the sleigh so that the sleigh looks cool and goes faster.. So unfair... ;)
We (theologists) went from the competition to an after party, and from there to an other after party, and from there to play pool, and from there to an other after party. So right now I'm exhausted!
So as you can tell, it was a really fun day. Pictures will follow. Promise.

Studying Theology

There has been a lot of these pictures going around on Facebook that shows different prejudices or stereotypes of different professions or hobbies and when I stumbled upon this one I just had to share it.
So funny and quite accurate :)

Only thing I disagree on is the future part. I think this would suit better on the last frame:

Les Mis and more

A lot of things have happened since I the last post.

I went today to see the musical  Les Miserables @ Åbo Svenska Teater with a friend. I must say that I'm absolutely speechless. I haven't seen a play or a musical this good in a long long time, if ever! I understand now where all the praises come from. I would so like to go and watch the play once more, but unfortunately almost all of the remaining shows are sold out. So I just have to settle for the Les Mis Playlist I made with spotify.

Another thing that happened today; I got a invitation (yes, on the e-mail it said it's an invitation) to a summer- job interview with Viking Line. Keep your thumbs up that it'll go well!

semajnofino (esperanto)

The weekend is finally here!

Even though this week haven't felt so long or tough, despite of the long days at the University, I feel grateful that the weekend's arrived. I love to just take it slow after a week of school and studies, do all the things that need to be done with time and thought. Even cleaning and groceries-shopping.
I think I deserve a whole bunch of ''grown-up points'' vuxenpoäng for this :)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Midnight in Paris

I just finished watching the movie Midnight in Paris. Usually I have a hard time to watch or let alone finish this kind of artistic movies (I know that many are question my sanity, but I never really understood e.g. the movie Amélie) but this movie, Midnight in Paris, got me hooked. It is a wonderful romcom placed in the 21th century mixed with the glamour of the twenties. The starring actors (Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams) was the reason why I wanted to see the movie as I didn't even know the plot, but it totally surprised me. This movie was far away from the Hollywood romcoms that always have the same plot. While I was watching the movie, I dreamed myself away to Paris. The one capital I think is overrated. But now, I could see myself walking again in the streets of Paris.

What also really got to me was a small message that was hidden in the movie; We have to enjoy our present and not trying to hold on to the past. In an addition I want to point out the name of my blog, Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow

I highly recommend a nice blanket, box of chocolate and a good glass of wine to be enjoyed with this movie.

Faith or Science?

I got this from a friend and had to share it! So good discussion that highlights the similarities between Christianity and science. Enjoy it and share it!

''Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?

Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

Student was silent.

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Student :Yes

Professor: So who created evil ?

Student did not answer.

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

Student had no answer.

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No ,sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smell your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

The class was in uproar.

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

The class broke out into laughter.

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

By the way, that student was EINSTEIN.''

The beauty of winter

It was almost one o'clock a.m. and I was just about to go to my bed, when I saw the most beautiful thing when I shot a glimpse at my window. My room in my home where I grew up is situated in the corner of the house and during summer it's the worst room you could live in. During summertime, you won't get a moment when the sun isn't shining right inside the room from the windows that are towards north and east. But now, during winter with 12 degrees below zero (witch is normally far too cold for me) the view from the windows in my room were absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, I'm not that good a photographer that I could take a picture that would give justice to the nature, so I'll try to describe the view saw.

Like I already mentioned outside's -12 degrees. You from north know how the snow looks like when there's frost. If someone doesn't know, hold on. I'll get to it. The moon's shining bright. It's on it's way to full moon. You can see some stars, but only the ones that shines brightest, because the moon is taking the stage tonight. The snow is also glittering, but not like that stars tonight. No, the snow is shining like a million diamonds. There's some footprints in the snow from a rabbit that has ran across the garden, maybe in search of some food.
You can't here a sound outside with everything totally quiet, even the wind doesn't whisper.
It's beautiful.

In one moment like this, I fall in love with winter, even if it is only for tonight. This night is mine.

Snow Patrol

I have lately been listening to melancholic rock. I love the lyrics, the music and the feeling in the tracks.
On my playlist I've had mostly Coldplay (doesn't need any introduction) Adele, Hurts, James Blunt and Snow Patrol. Can say that Brits really know how to make some good music. Cheers!

Here's a lovely song by Snow Patrol:
